Gemotions

The elevator ride felt interminably long. Each floor seemed to mock his situation; the happy faces of coworkers, the constant chatter, the meaningless meetings. The weight of his responsibilities, of his future, felt crushing. He’d heard the news, a brief summary of a very important meeting with the board.

His shoulders slumped as he stepped out onto the sidewalk, the bright sunlight suddenly overwhelming. All he wanted was to find a quiet place, to simply *stop*. He needed a respite. The thought of starting the drive home, and then having to cook, made him wince, even the idea of sitting down, felt like more effort than he could bear.
